Long read, get some popcorn:
In the last couple of weeks, I've been thinking about how I could add more value to this page beyond just promoting new music. So I decided to write a blog, hoping that most of you will find something interesting, whether in personal or professional industry-related topics.
Since many of you asked about it (for real), here's episode 1, dedicated to my recent trip to Mexico. 🇲🇽
It was a short trip indeed; the time spent traveling was the same as the duration of my stay. Despite the numb limbs and lack of sleep, it was worth every minute.
Let me dispel a myth: It's not as some believe, where you exit the airport and are immediately accosted. Crime is an issue, but don't let fear stop you from visiting this beautiful country. Just be sure to check which areas are safer and which are more dangerous.
People in Mexico are extremely friendly and always happy to chat. Most of the folks I talked to were very proud of their country, something we in the EU could learn from. Their pride was evident as they eagerly shared interesting facts about Mexico. Did you know that Mexico and Hungary have some visually similar monuments? This seems to be pure coincidence, but you can compare Heroes Square in Hungary (built 1900) and Monumento a Benito Juárez in Mexico (built 1910).
During dinner, we chatted about the music scene, with reggaeton being quite popular and the electronic music scene growing, especially in places like Tulum. Oh and of course I must mention the food! I'm a huge fan of chilis, spices like coriander/cilantro, and learned much about tacos, quesadillas, tortas, burritos, etc. The differences can be subtle and locally variable, leading to confusion, so it's worth exploring this thread for the basics.
After dinner, we headed to a local bar owned by a good friend of the Freyre (one of the promoters) to enjoy some Mezcals with friends. I have a preference for mezcal over tequila, mainly because of its smoky taste, although I wouldn't say no to a good tequila.
The bar was lively, filled with people who were also friends with the promoters. While communication was not always easy since not everyone spoke English, they had a super friendly attitude. It was also clear that they really like to party and have a great love for this kind of music, making me feel less nervous about the gig. They all came over to the club to check me out. The party was a blast to say the least: the place was fully packed, and the vibe was really special, creating an unforgettable experience. Btw. Have you seen the short video reel I posted yesterday?
Though I was tired and jet-lagged after the party, I couldn't stay in the hotel for long. An opportunity arose to record a 1-hour live video stream again, thanks to the HeSawYou podcast. So, I was on the road again in a few hours to the inner city studio. I shared the 1-hour recording time with Freyre, and we seemed to inspire each other, putting together a fantastic set. If you're interested, you can check it out below.
Last but not least, before heading to the airport, I had exactly 1 hour to explore one of the world's biggest cities. Thanks to Freyre, he guided me around the most famous monuments, sharing historical insights. I realized that Mexican and Hungarian histories have quite a few similarities. Living 10,000 kilometers apart, we may not be that different after all.
